Facebook: Privacy is a myth | Qrius

The Facebook company turned into Meta. In this modern world concealing your identity is most difficult. Once someone has started using a smartphone, there is no going back, and privacy is the same. Before the internet was common there was the issue of collecting data but it has turned into managing tons of data.

Facebook is a leading tech company launched by Mark Zuckerberg in 2004. Facebook requires a lot of permission for its various terms and agreements. Google reveals that Facebook has 2.2 billion active users. Many interesting stats will blow your mind about Facebook.

Facebook: Privacy is a myth

Facebook and its origin:

Facebook was made a platform where people can socialize with each other. It was made for people, friends, family, or professionals. Mark encountered the idea of introducing a new method of making new friends. Facebook started from zero revenue to 8596.5 crores USD according to the 2020 report.

Facebook Algorithm:

Facebook has a very complex algorithm for feed posts. You can see customized feeds for everyone according to their friends, and interests. Observe the powerful algorithm and how they manipulate it to make you feel special.

The Facebook feature keeps you reminded of 1, 2,3 or so memories, through this you get to know what you had posted at that instance. According to data scientists, Facebook is the biggest threat to itself and its users. Also, you will find that someday you visit a new store in your city, or the next day, the same product pops up on your feed.

This is all possible due to a robust and deadlier combination of Artificial intelligence and Machine Learning. Machine learning is a powerful tool built for these purposes. It is the new brain in computer science, this observes the pattern of your scrolling and what sort of content you watch. They also measure how long you have watched and what you share.

Facebook – a culprit:

Facebook has been sued by thousands of people and the government. authority for its data breach. India, one of the world's leading nations, has shown concern about data breaching. The United States of America has objected and dragged Mark into legal custody.

The US has raised allegations that during the last election policy remained unchanged for politicians to spread hatred, violence, and weapons. A Harvard student and Cambridge student presented how Facebook has collected data in these years and managed it on the cloud.

But Facebook denied such allegations and has stated in defense. Facebook said that the data presented by Cambridge is extracted from the third-party app, not from theirs.

How much data does Facebook hold?

Facebook stores its data in various cloud service providers. This cloud storage can store the data of billions of users with hold up to Zeta, PETA, and more.

These three topmost cloud services used by Facebook:

Scuba: This cloud storage has fast loading and a limit of 100 terabytes. It is especially for managing databases in tables. Scuba can run 100 queries per second and can delete or create millions of rows under a second. It is considered the quickest and most responsive, as scanning 100 billion rows per second is like snapping a finger.

➔ Operational Data Store (ODS): It is a slower cloud service, with data loads with some lag, among all others. It is widely used for troubleshooting. It can run 40,000 queries per second. Although it has a high number of queries per second it has a lag of 1 one to five minutes

➔ Hive: It is considered to be the largest storage holder cloud. It can store up to 300 petabytes. Facebook says that it generates 4 petabytes of new data every day and runs 600,000 queries per day.

How it helps business:

These zettabytes of storage are used for advertisement and monetizing pages. One small business can promote its products and services through such platforms.

Companies pay Facebook to run advertisements for their products. The advertisement is customizable according to different vendors. There is a feature of varying prices with a varying audience. You can post an ad in your city users or outstations too.

Facebook uses cloud data and matches compatibility. As told above algorithm determines behavioral patterns to target a dedicated audience.

There are following steps are used for managing data:

Data mining – search and compares data to establish a relation

Analyzing data – data is modified according to relation and presented on feeds

Machine learning – different algorithms use analyzed data

Deep learning - more advanced learning

Conclusion:

Facebook is rapidly growing as Instagram, Snapchat, and WhatsApp are bought by company Meta. Day by day Facebook is becoming more and more dangerous. These tech companies are valued at billions just because of the volume of data owned.

In this modern world try to avoid sharing data on such platforms. Because these apps can track you down wherever you visit. So be careful and have safe browsing!
